Brian’s CBB DFS Top Plays 1/20

Welcome to Brian’s CBB slate breakdown. In this article, I will share a few of my top plays on the slate, and discuss who you should target in cash and gpp contests. If you would like to gain access to our CBB core plays, final thoughts, and premium discord, click here.

Guards

Sharife Cooper (Auburn) vs. Arkansas

The freshman phenom actually looked human in Auburn’s last game vs. Kentucky, but even in a “down” game he ended up with 11 points and 8 assist, good for 28 DK points.  Arkansas is a team that plays with top 20 tempo, and is below average defensively.  Cooper is the clear alpha for this team, and in a game with the highest implied total we will want to target a few pieces from this game.  Cooper has shown massive upside, even priced at 9k, he still can easily exceed that, especially if Powell is out again.

Desi Sills (Arkansas) vs. Auburn

I will stick with this Auburn/Arkansas game for my next play.  Desi Sills drew the start in Arkansas last game, and put up a dud! However, we cannot take much from that performance, as the rest of the Razorbacks had the same amount of success.  Sills is a player that has shown 40+ DK point upside, even posting a 40 DK point performance vs. this same Auburn team last time they met.  We get Sills at a very low price tag tonight, and it is not very often you can play a guy that has the ceiling he has, at such a low price.  If for some reason he does not draw the start tonight, his usage and minutes would take a slight hit, but if he is starting, he is a very strong play in all formats.

Others to consider: D. Duke (PROV); M. Zegarwoski (CRE); K. Johnson (UGA); JD Notae (ARK); C. Love (UNC); RJ Davis (UNC); Q. Grimes (HOU); S. Wheeler (UGA); D. Mintz (UK); B. Boston (UK); D. Trice (WIS); M. Devoe (GT)

G. Brooks & A. Bacot(UNC) vs. Wake Forest

The UNC bigs have started to really take control of this UNC offense over the last few games.  UNC is establishing their presence in the paint, opening up opportunities for some outside shots.  Garrison Brooks has played 33 minutes in each of his last two games, and he shown that he has big upside when he receives over 30 minutes of action, by posting 16 points and 10 rebounds vs. Syracuse.  All of the UNC bigs struggled a little vs. the big frontcourt of FSU, but that will not be an issue tonight vs. Wake Forest.  Wake allows a ton of points in the paint, and are not a very good rebounding team.  I expect Brooks to see over 30 minutes once again tonight, and for Bacot to see 25+ minutes.  Both come at very reasonable price tags and are strong plays across all formats.  I tend to live and die by playing UNC bigs anytime they are on the slate, and this slate is no different! If I had to pick one UNC big to play, I would lean Garrison Brooks, with Bacot second and if going for 40 point upside and 12 point floor I would play Day’Ron Sharpe!

Aamir Simms (Clemson) vs. Georgia Tech

Talking about players with 40 dk point upside, Simms is one of those players.  Simms leads this Clemson team with a 26% usage rate, and also leads them in scoring, rebounding and minutes.  Georgia Tech has one of the worst defenses in the ACC, so the matchup is a nice one for Simms tonight.  The one thing that is concerning for Simms is his tendency to get into foul trouble, limiting his time on the court.  If he can avoid getting into foul problems, he comes with a very high ceiling.  I don’t know that I trust him enough to play him in my main lineup tonight, but I do love getting to Simms in my tournament lines!

Moses Moody (Arkansas) vs. Auburn

Again, this game comes in with a total that is 11 points higher than the next closest game.  Moody is the scoring leader for this Arkansas team, averaging 17.7 ppg.  He also comes in second on the team in usage rate at 22%.  This game should play at a very fast tempo, as both teams rank in the top half of the NCAA in pace.  Moody can get extremely hot and really fill up the stat sheet.  He is a very good rebounder, and has the ability to reach a double/double.  He is priced up tonight, right near Sharife Coopers price.  I prefer Cooper to Moody, slightly.  However, Moody has 40+ point upside and is a very strong GPP play tonight.  If you decide to run a game stack here, start with Moody, Cooper and Sills.

Others to consider: T. Camara (UGA); O. Sarr (UK); N. Watson (PROV); A. Ford (WIS); J. Nichols Jr. (PROV); T. Wahl (WIS); D. Jefferson (CRE); M. Wright (CLEM)
