Brian’s CBB DFS Top Plays 12/11

Welcome to Brian’s CBB slate breakdown. In this article I will share a few of my top plays on the slate, and discuss who you should target in cash and gpp contests. If you would like to gain access to our CBB core plays, final thoughts, and premium discord, click here.

Guards

Marcus Zegarowski (Creighton) vs. Nebraska

Zegarowski has played really solid basketball so far this season, and finds himself in a game tonight vs. Nebraska that his skill set should be able to thrive in. On the season he is averaging 13pp, 6 apg and 4rpg.  He has not been a very efficient shooter so far this year only shooting 40% from the field and 33% from 3. I expect these numbers to improve drastically over the next few games. Nebraska struggles guarding opposing teams backcourts, and that trend should continue tonight vs. a talent like Zegarowski.

Joe Wieskamp (Iowa) vs. Iowa State

In my opinion, Wieskamp is just priced too low for all he has to offer. Wieskamp is a very good shooter, and is able to contribute in other areas, such as rebounding and assist.  He nearly had a double/double vs. UNC last game out scoring 19points and pulling in 9 rebounds.  He finds himself in another fast paced, up-tempo game vs. Iowa State. Wieskamp has been lethal from 3pt range this year shooting at a 57% clip. I really like targeting this game, and expect Wieskamp and Garza to carry this Iowa team to victory.

Julian Champagnie (St. Johns) vs. Seton Hall

Champagnie has been the best player for this St. Johns team since he was able to get on the court.  He is averaging 22 points and 7 rebounds per game.  He has also been very effective in creating turnovers, averaging 2 steals per game.  He is one of the most expensive plays tonight, but will be playing in an up-tempo game and vs. a very sub par defense. I really like targeting Champagnie tonight.

Others to consider:  J. Shepherd (UNCC); J. Young (UNCC); D. Mahoney (Creight); J. Juzang (UCLA); R. Bolton (ISU); D. Banton (NEB); M. Garrett (KAN); T. Harris (ISU); J. Coleman-Lands (ISU)

Forwards

Luka Garza (Iowa) vs. Iowa State

Garza is arguably the best big man in the entire country, and the way he is playing right now, he is the clear cut favorite for POY.  Garza is averaging 30 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocked shots per game, he also sports a 36% usage rate.  Iowa runs their offense through him, and when a defense collapses on him, he is very skilled in finding the open shooter when this happens.  Iowa State will throw bodies at Garza in attempts to slow him down, but they do not have the personnel to do so effectively.  Garza is my top play on this slate, and is by a wide margin.

Sandro Mamukelashvili (Seton Hall) vs. St. Johns

Mamukelashvili has been a little hot and cold over the last few games for Seton Hall.  He came out of the gates this season playing incredibly well.  Although he has struggled a little bit with his shot this season, he is still averaging 19 points and 7 rebounds per game.  He is in a favorable spot tonight vs. the frontcourt of St. Johns and should be able to do what he wants down low, and also cause some problems when he pulls the bigs away from the basket.  With his combination of size, skill and shooting ability, he is a matchup nightmare for opposing teams. St. Johns is also top 10 in tempo this year, so they will push the pace in this game. This is the type of game environment that Sandro typically thrives in. He also comes in priced below 8k on DK.

Solomon Young (Iowa State) vs. Iowa

After a sub-par performance in Iowa States first game, Young came out and played phenomenal vs. South Dakota State in ISU’s second game. He played 30 minutes and scored 24 points and had 6 rebounds. He has a usage rate of 25%, and should continue to produce at a high level.  Young will be tasked with defending one of the best big men in the country in Luka Garza, so he should get as many minutes as he can handle.  As tough as Garza is to defend, he is not a very good defender.  If Young were to get into foul trouble, or ISU decides to go with a bigger lineup, you could see them turn to someone like George Conditt who is 6’10 and has the size needed to defend Garza.  He is priced at only $3200 on DK.

Others to consider: C. Bishop (CREIGH); J. Wilson (KAN); J. Johnson (ISU); J. Hill (UCLA); M. Supica (UNCC); J. Cain (MARQ); M. Cale (SH); J. Robinson-Earl (NOVA); C. Smith (UCLA)
