Brian’s Top CBB Targets 12/1

Welcome to Brian’s CBB Slate Breakdown. In this article I will break down a few of my top plays on the slate, and will discuss who you should target in cash and gpp contests. If you would like to gain access to our CBB core plays, final thoughts, and premium discord, click here!

Guards

David Johnson (Louisville) vs. WKU

David Johnson is coming off one of his best outings this year where he scored 16 points and added in 6 assist.  Louisville’s game vs. WKU has one of the highest totals on the slate, making this a very fantasy friendly environment.  He is the primary ball handler allowing C. Jones to play off the ball.  Johnson is also a very good rebounder for a guard.  Johnson is currently second on the Cardinals in usage rate.  He comes in at a very affordable $6,700, a very solid play at that price

DJ Steward (DUKE) vs. Michigan State

Steward is one of the many talented freshman that are on this loaded Duke squad, and probably the best shooter of the bunch.  Steward is a lethal shooter and can put points up fast, as evidenced by his first game in a Blue Devil uniform.  Steward came in off the bench in Dukes’ first game and promptly put up a monster stat line of 24 points, 9 rebounds and an assist.  He played 33 minutes off the bench and led the Duke Blue Devils in usage.  Not completely sure if he continues to come off the bench, or if he has worked his way into the starting lineup, either way, with his level of production and his ability to shoot the ball at a high % he is a very solid play.

Kellen Grady (Davidson) vs. Providence

Grady is Davidson’s top returning player this year, and a player that Davidson is hoping can lead them to a SoCon championship.  Grady has had a very nice start to his season playing 37 minutes per game and averaging 17ppg.  He leads Davidson in usage and now will get to play in a game that should have nice pace to it.  Grady will need a big game if they are going to beat Providence tonight.  For his production and usage rate in this offense, he is just too cheap.

Others to consider:  T. Clarke (Kentucky); T. Hollingsworth(WKU)*GTD; C. Jones (Louisville); DJ Steward (DUKE); C. Cunningham (OKST); BJ Boston (Kentucky)

Forwards

Joey Hauser (Michigan St.) vs. Duke

Joey Hauser has been everything Michigan State had hoped for and more.  Hauser is averaging a double/double on the season so far, and has by far been Michigan States most productive player.  He will get a great matchup tonight vs. Duke who play at one of the highest paces in the country.  I believe that the high tempo game favors Hauser’s skill set here.  Hauser leads the Spartans in usage rate and shot rate.  DK dropped the ball here and priced him way to low.  Hauser is going to be in my optimal core tonight at that price.

Charles Bassey (WKU) vs. Louisville

Bassey is one of the most skilled big men in the country, and will be a future NBA draft pick.  Bassey is averaging a double/double scoring 15.7 ppg and 10 rpg.  He is a monster on the glass and is a nightmare to guard on the block.  He, along with T. Hollingsworth form a very skilled duo that will lead Western Kentucky to many victories this year.  He finds himself in a pace up spot here, where he should continue his strong start to the season.  Bassey is a relentless rebounder and an elite defender, he should make life hard on the frontcourt of Louisville.  Bassey is a strong play tonight.

Jalen Johnson (Duke) vs. Michigan State

Jalen Johnson had a monster start to his career at Duke, scoring 19 points and pulling in 19 boards.  Johnson is an extremely talented player that has the combination of size, skill and basketball IQ that you typically don’t see in freshman.  Not only can Johnson score and defend at a high level, but he is an extremely talented passer.  By the time the season is over he will be on a short list for ACC POY.  He gets a good matchup tonight vs. Michigan State, who will struggle to guard someone that has his size and skill.  He is priced up, so it may be hard to get to him in cash, but he is a very strong play.

Others to consider:  M. Hurt (DUKE); Q. Wahab (Georgetown); N. Watson (Prov); J. Withers(LOU); J. Wilson (Kansas); O. Sarr (Kentucky); S. Mennenga (Davidson)
