NBA DFS – Tristan’s GPP Plays (1/14/22)

Happy Friday everyone! We have a nice big slate ahead of us, TON of news, a bunch of chalk..  This is a great time to get those low-owned punts into your lineup for tournaments. Let’s dive into some of my favorite GPP plays for tonight!

Point Guard

Similar to all positions, I want players with the highest upside and the highest floor. We want generally a low risk/high reward player that won’t kill the entire line if he busts. Starting off, I’m looking at Lonzo Ball at 6.6k. He is a player who gets a good amount of his stats from peripherals, and his upside comes from his scoring. He usually will get enough reb/ast/blk/stl to hit a good floor of around 20-25, and what we’re really looking for here is for him to knock down multiple 3s against a team in GS who just gave up 118 to Giannis & the Bucks with most of those being 3pt and paint buckets. Lonzo fits that narrative as most of his shots are 3s and layups. He’s cheap to a point where he won’t hurt you TOO much if he does have a floor game, but his L10 has him at 34.8 DKP which is also great for his price.

BONUS: Kevin Porter Jr

Shooting Guard

Jordan Poole will be fairly popular today but for good reason. I put him here in the GPP plays because he can always have an off night shooting in a big role or the Bulls could literally dominate the Warriors here and it could be a blowout. This GS team definitely does not look too great without Draymond and against the Bucks last night, they literally looked lost as at one point they were down 40. Usually, this isn’t the case because they are led by Steph Curry & Steve Kerr who know how to win..so I don’t EXPECT it to be a blowout by all means. With that being said, Jordan Poole should have a big part in why they stay close as Steph Curry has been struggling lately and teams are option to double him off of screens which leads to the rest of the Warriors having to produce. Poole at 5k is a steal for his upside without Klay or Gary Payton and his role here..also hoping Lonzo guards Steph instead of Poole.

BONUS: Josh Richardson

Small Forward

JaeSean Tate has been thriving in the starting line-up and tonight gets a great match-up against a team that is t10 in pace as of now and not great defensively. This should be a competitive game where JaeSean doesn’t have to guard a big usage forward in Marvin Bagley or Harrison Barnes. I don’t think he should get into foul trouble here which has been an issue of his. He has an upside of around 30 DKP here but also a low floor because of his foul troubles. In a 238 and a half total game score, there should be ample opportunities for JaeSean to accumulate peripherals. In most of the close games recently, he has around 25DKP.

Power Forward

PJ Tucker has come back from COVID protocols and has put up an avg of 27.5 DKP since his return. He slotted back into that 4 spot and if Jimmy Butler is out, I do believe he continues to play that spot and put up good minutes for Miami. He’s a staple for their defense and Atlanta is also terrible defensively as well as missing their main rebounder in Capela. This should allow PJ to pick up a few more boards with less competition in the paint, while also allowing him to retain his role as main defensive anchor. His only bad game since returning from COVID was against GS where Draymond WAS playing so their defense was pretty legit.

BONUS: PJ Washington

Center

Al Horford is going to be my upside play tonight at the C spot against Joel Embiid & the 76ers. Horford should see big minutes here relative to his last few games because he will be well needed to guard Embiid tonight. Against Horford, Embiid’s numbers are pretty average in the scoring category. Against Embiid, Horford averages 25+ DKP historically. Obviously his role is different here, but this year against Embiid he had over 30 DKP. There is no Marcus Smart tonight so the ball will be more in the hands of the wings, that should see more screen and roll/pop usage.

BONUS: Robin Lopez if Mo Bamba out
