NBA Jock MKT Play (4/1/22)

Jock MKT is fun new way to play DFS. In this article, I’ll break down what Jock MKT is and my favorite NBA buys for tonight’s slate.

What Is Jock MKT?

The simplest way to outline this is daily fantasy sports meets the stock market. You’ll purchase shares of players for varying amounts, depending on how much others are willing to pay for them during the IPO. Once the Live Trading starts, you can buy players that others want to sell or sell your players during the game. Once all of the games have ended, you will receive money based on how well your player performs compared to the field on the Jock MKT app for the night.

4/1/22 Top Buy

Dejounte Murray, San Antonio Spurs

Potential Bid: $16.00

Break-Even Point: 4th

If you’re new to Jock MKT, you may be struggling to read what’s listed below the Murray recommendation. Essentially, I’m willing to spend up to $16.00 per share for him. He needs to finish 4th in the field for me to make my money back with the opportunity for me to make more if he finishes higher.

For example, if I buy 1 share of Muray at $16.00 and he finishes 4th in this field, I make my $16.00 back. If he finishes 1st, I win $25 (profit $9.00). If he finishes last, I win $1 (lose $15.00). It’s that simple.

Murray is my favorite stud-level player tonight and it’s because of the Spurs situation. We have entered the part of the NBA season where tanking has begun to take over, and the Spurs are fighting for their play-off lives. They need to continue to win if they want a spot in the play-in tournament and that has resulted in Murray completely taking over on offense. His usage rate has remained strong at a 27% rate for the entire season, and he has topped 55 fantasy points in each of his last three games. He also has arguably the highest ceiling on the slate outside of Nikola Jokic, which is something to consider when buying players considering we are banking on ceiling performances from them anyways. Portland is the worst defensive team in the NBA, and they will have no hope of slowing down Murray tonight. I want to continue to bet on high-usage players in must-win games as the season winds down and that starts with Murray on Friday.

Mid-Tier Buy

Theo Maledon, Oklahoma City

Potential Bid: $6.00

Break-Even Point: 25th

This may seem like a high price for Theo Maledon, but it’s actually still a pretty good discount given his current role on this team.  The Thunder are tanking, and will continue to play without SGA, Lu Dort and Josh Giddey down the stretch of the season. This leaves the team very thin, and has allowed Maledon to completely take over. Not only does he lead the team in per minute production with them off the floor, but he has the ball in his hands a ton. Over the last three games, he trails on Luka Doncic and Darius Garland in drives per game. Over that three game span, he is eighth in the NBA in touches 92. So, accounting for those numbers, you can see he actually has a top-12 to 15 ceiling on this slate if he continues to take over. It also helps he has a strong match-up against the Pistons, who are without their rim protectors. Maledon is a top target of mine tonight, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see him finish top-ten overall on Friday.

Value Buy

Xavier Tillman, Memphis Grizzlies

Potential Bid: $2.75

Break-Even Point: 55th

Memphis has already locked in the two seed in the West, and have decided to rest several of their key players on Friday night. With both Jaren Jackson and Steven Adams unlikely to play, that allows Tillman to hit a projection of 30 minutes in our Projections Portal. Tillman has regularly shown fantasy point per minute ability, and the issue has always been him getting the minutes and not so much his actual play. This spike in projected workload is huge for Tillman who is outside the top-50 in Jock MKT’s pre-ranking for tonight. Furthermore, there is going to be so much value opening on this slate that it’s likely he doesn’t get a ton of attention with so many cheap players projecting as good buys. If you can secure shares of Tillman for anything under $3.00 you are setting yourself up for some major potential profit.
