NBA Jock MKT Play (4/5/22)

Jock MKT is fun new way to play DFS. In this article, I’ll break down what Jock MKT is and my favorite NBA buys for tonight’s slate.

What Is Jock MKT?

The simplest way to outline this is daily fantasy sports meets the stock market. You’ll purchase shares of players for varying amounts, depending on how much others are willing to pay for them during the IPO. Once the Live Trading starts, you can buy players that others want to sell or sell your players during the game. Once all of the games have ended, you will receive money based on how well your player performs compared to the field on the Jock MKT app for the night.

4/6/22 Top Buy

Jordan Clarkson, Utah Jazz

Potential Bid: $11.00

Break-Even Point: 10th

If you’re new to Jock MKT, you may be struggling to read what’s listed below the Irving recommendation. Essentially, I’m willing to spend up to $11.00 per share for him. He needs to finish 10th in the field for me to make my money back with the opportunity for me to make more if he finishes higher.

For example, if I buy 1 share of Clarkson at $11.00 and he finishes 10th in this field, I make my $11.00 back. If he finishes 1st, I win $25 (profit $14.00). If he finishes last, I win $1 (lose $10.00). It’s that simple.

This might look like a high price for someone like Jordan Clarkson, but on this slate I can assure you it isn’t. The NBA regular season is winding down, and with only a few days left of action teams are resting players and tanking regularly. That’s the case tonight with the Jazz, who will be without both Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley. Obviously, that’s a big boost to Clarkson and it’s hard to overstate just how much of a bump it truly is. Not only do we see a fantasy point per minute spike with those two off the floor, but Clarkson’s usage rate jumps by over 5%. This is a very strong match-up against a tanking Oklahoma City team, and he is my number one buy tonight. It’s tough to gauge now the field will value him, and I think it’s very likely you can get in for much cheaper than my listed buy-in. That being said, he’s inside the top-ten in our projections for tonight, so anything less that $11.00 is a glaring value.

Mid-Level Buy

Javale McGee, Phoenix Suns

Potential Bid: $6.00

Break-Even Point: 28th

I was on McGee the other day as well, and will be going back to the well with DeAnde Ayton out again tonight. McGee has always been a dominant per minute producer when given the minutes, and he has regularly seen mid-20’s in minutes with Ayton off the floor. McGee is likely inside the top-25 in raw ceiling on this slate given his minutes projection, and we most likely will be able to get him priced well outside of the top-25 tonight. I think it’s likely you can secure shares for around $6.00, but would be fine bidding up to $7.00 for him in this spot. He’s in a great spot for increased run, and there are landmines all over this slate with the potential resting/tanking.
