Timmay’s Takes–Basketball Betting 1/26

The basketball betting slate for both college and NBA has some nice, tasty opportunities. Let’s get right to it:

Illinois @ Maryland (-9), 145 O/U

  • ILL 3-12-1 ATS L15 on Saturdays
  • ILL 0-5 L5 ATS when outrebounded; MD has not been outrebounded since 12/22
  • MD 5-0 ATS when following SU loss.
  • ILL 3-9 ATS after following SU loss

The Take: Maryland -9

The Illini are a team without a consistent scorer or identity. Brad Underwood has tried numerous rotations but his style just doesn’t seem to gel with the Big Ten baddies. Maryland is still one of the most complete teams in the conference and is looking to bounce back after a huge home loss to Sparty. Take the Terrapins. This could get ugly.

Utah (-5.5) @ California, 147 O/U

  • CAL 1-9 ATS L10
  • UTA 5-1 L6 ATS
  • CAL 0-5 ATS L5 at home
  • CAL lost last six by double digits
  • UTA 8-1 ATS when chalk

The Take: Utah -5.5

Cal simply is in a downward spiral and hasn’t even come close to most teams. Utah has been playing efficient ball and controls the boards. A predictive model picks Utah to cover and win by 20. Take the Utes and don’t look back.

ATL @ POR (-10.5), 228.5 O/U

  • POR 17-10 ATS at home
  • Home team 58-34-1 ATS with referee crew for the game
  • POR average difference at home +9
  • ATL shooting 41% of FGA as 3PT, POR defends 3 well
  • POR 6-0 ATS on 1 day rest

The Take: Portland -10.5

The Hawks certainly have been playing better than their record indicates, but so have the Trail Blazers. Portland’s defense should slow down anything Atlanta throws at them on the arc, and Atlanta’s strength is their frontcourt and rebounding, but that is also a strength of Portland. At home, the Blazers have been great. Take Portland.

Good luck and Good Gambling!
