Slate Thoughts:

  • The first big slate of the year, brings us plenty of games that are projected to be high scoring.  We also have plenty of players that appear to be mispriced that we will be able to take advantage of.  The first mispriced group of guys that stand out to me are the Eastern Washington players.  Eric Barriere is one of the top FCS quarterbacks in the nation.  Last year he threw for 1500 yards in only 4 games, good for nearly 375 yards per game.  He will be facing a UNLV team that was absolutely atrocious last year on both sides of the ball, but particularly the defensive side.  As much as Barriere and the Easter Washington offense is going to sling it, Barriere being priced at only 5.2k on DK is just way to cheap.  He also has a few pass catchers that are priced 5k and below that make great stacking partners with him.  The top guy that stands out to me is Limu-Jones.  Limu-Jones had 30 receptions for 426 yards last season, in only 4 games.  He also averaged over 10 targets per game.  He is a really strong value play at only 5k Thursday.

  • Another team I will be looking to target pretty heavily is “THE” Ohio State Buckeyes.  They are returning two of the top receivers in all of football in Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave.  I love the fact that we are getting Olave at a sub 7k price tag, and think he is one of the best WR plays on the slate.  At quarterback, the Buckeyes will have CJ Stroud running things.  He is a highly touted prospect who has found himself on plenty of pre-season Heisman Favorite big boards.  He comes in at a price tag that is very easy to get too.  He will however be taking his first starting reps on the road in a hostile environment.  I believe this kids talent is out of this world, and he will shine when the lights are the brightest.

  • I find Boise State very interesting on this slate.  They have hired a new Offensive Coordinator, Tim Plough, who is considered one of the top young coaches in the entire country.  He is known for his high powered offenses, during his time at UC Davis.  Over his last 3 seasons there he has produced a top 10 passing game in the country in each of those seasons.  Hank Bachmeier and Khalil Shakir are going to benefit greatly from this hire.  This game vs. UCF has the highest total on the entire slate, and while UCF will garner plenty of ownership, I believe Boise needs to have just as much attention, particularly the passing attack.  Bachmeier is priced too low, and I will be taking advantage of it.  Khalil Shakir is a great stacking partner with him.  Both guys could be considered in all formats.  On the other side here we have UCF, who are priced way up.  They are a high powered offense, and under Gus Malzhan I expect them to continue their offensive success.  However, due to their elevated price tags it is tough getting to much from this team.  I do think you can stack Gabriel, Robinson and Johnson, but know you will need to fill in the rest of your lineup with plenty of value guys.  I’m liking Boise more in this matchup, in terms of fantasy production.

  • A few running backs that stand out to me are George Holani, Cameron Peoples, Rachaad White Zonovan Knight and Charles Williams.  All five of these backs make for strong plays in all formats Thursday.  Holani was an absolute animal for Boise when he was healthy, and now not only will he get plenty of carries in this Boise offense, they are surely to use his receiving skills and get him the ball out of the back field.  Daetrich Harrington is expected to be out for the first few weeks of the season, thrusting Cameron Peoples into a much larger role for this App State squad.  Peoples had a huge finish to his season last year, capping it off with a 317 yard 5 TD performance vs. UNT, he is one of my favorite plays on this entire slate. White and the Sundevils will be taking on an inferior squad in Southern Utah, who just got smoked by San Jose State.  He should have plenty of chances to rack up yards on the ground here, and produce a very solid stat line at his reduced price tag of 7k.  Both Knight and Charles offer solid value at the RB position.  Both guys are poised for big workloads this season, and both have really strong matchups that they should thrive in.  I don’t believe you can go wrong with any of these guys in any format.
