Frank’s NHL Value Vault for Draftkings

Welcome back Karma Nation,

We at DFS Karma sincerely hope you enjoyed a happy holiday with your family and friends. After three hockey-less days, the NHL is upon us again with 22 teams skating on tonight’s NHL schedule. Like riding a bike, we never forget how to find value to help you build a winning lineup.

-Insights and player picks for tonight’s 11 game slate-
  • Biggest favorites: WAS, TOR, COL
  • Highest game totals: TOR@NJ, CAR@NYR, MIN@COL
  • Lowest game totals: VGK@ANH, NYI@CHI, STL@WPG

Offense:

Ilya Mikheyev TOR ($3600-DK, $3900-FD) has picked up five points and taken 18 shots in his last six games, while proving to be one of Toronto’s most consistent players over the last month. In fact, Mikheyev has been skating so well, he has been elevated to the Leaf’s top scoring line and will face New Jersey’s mediocre defense with one of tonight’s highest projected game totals.

Ryan Dzingel CAR ($3600-DK, $4500-FD) has accumulated five points and fired 20 shots on goal in his last eight games. The Hurricanes are on the road, but the Rangers rank 23rd defensively against opposing wingers, and Dzingel sees 2nd-unit power play time. This game has the highest implied goal total tonight and could shoot out.

Adrian Kempe LA ($3100-DK, $3800-FD) has lit the lamp in three of his last four games, and has been solid on the King’s top power play unit. San Jose has struggled to stop anyone this season, and currently ranks 29th defensively against wingers. Even though both these teams have under-achieved this season, this is a geographic rivalry game that could produce a high amount of scoring chances.

Also consider: Jack Hughes NJ ($3700-DK, $4200-FD)                                                     Zack Kassian EDM ($3900-DK, $4700-FD)

Defense:

Justin Faulk STL ($3700-DK, $4000-FD) has gone highly under-owned much of the season due to a slow start with his new team. Faulk has really heated up lately, and rewarded fantasy owners with double-digit scoring in five of his last six games. Let’s take advantage of his value price as Faulk should easily play 20 minutes, and is on St Louis’ 2nd-unit PP versus Winnipeg’s mid-pack defense.

Erik Johnson COL ($3600-DK, $3800-FD) has shot 15 times and blocked 28 shots in Colorado’s last nine games. In the two games this season he has faced Minnesota, Johnson has blocked nine shots and averaged over 11 points on Draftkings. The Wild rank 31st defensively against opposing blueliners, and Johnson has only played less than 20 minutes twice in his last 12 games.

Also consider: Nick Leddy NYI ($3700-DK, $4200-FD)

Goaltenders:

Jaroslav Halak BOS ($7500-DK only) has only allowed 2.4 goals per game on average, and should get good goal support as Buffalo has allowed an average of over 3.0 goals per game. This starting nod makes sense as Halak has fared better than Tukka Rask on the road for the Bruins in about the same amount of starts this season.

Ilya Samsonov WAS ($7800-FD only) has four road wins in his last five appearances, and has only given up more than two goals once in those five games. Washington is the biggest favorite to win tonight primarily because Columbus ranks 24th in scoring, averaging just 2.65 goals/game.

Best of luck cashing your lineups!
