Ricky’s StableDuel Strategy – 10/10/20

Hello and welcome to Saturdays edition of StableDuel Strategy. Today we are focusing on Santa Anita as they offer a $5 contest as well as a $25 contest. While StableDuel has yet to reveal ownership of horses after lock, I have came up with a little bit a sheet that I’ve used to track as best as I can. Today, my core will be more focused on the $25 contest as that is more of a ‘cash’ type lobby. You can certainly use the horses and notes below in the $5 contest too, but it will be a little more ‘cash’ ownership type horses in the core. If you decide to play in either game, make sure to let us know how you did in our discord channel!

If you need a refresher on scoring, please refer back to our debut article that goes a little more in-depth, located here.

High Price Favorites

Flat Out Joy $11,000 – Race 3
Here we have the highest priced horse on the day and for good reason. But just know that you will live and die with this horse if you choose to include in your lineup. Flat Out Joy drops multiple class levels to compete in this race in her second start off a layoff. She really is the one to beat in this race. If you use horses underneath, we are praying that she doesn’t demolish this field too bad.

Just Grazed Me $9,800 – Race 8
I have a very strong opinion that Just Grazed Me will end up your winner in this race. There’s only 5 horses in the race after the scratch of top competitor, Fantasy Heat, which only strengthens the idea of using horses from this race as they will all acquire points. I will need her to show some of that 2019 pizazz when she was winning California Distaff’s handily. She’s had 5 months off to get back to her old self and I’m hoping on this long layoff, she comes in firing.

Mid Price Plays

Leggs Galore $6,000 – Race 4
In a wide open race where no horse is priced over $7,500, I think it’s fair to take a shot on a horse like Leggs Galore. Workouts on Leggs have been straight fire and two wins in the last 2 outings make a strong case for this horse. Just going to need a step up in class here to handle main competitors Over Attracted ($7,500) and Dolce ($6,000), both acceptable alternatives to the core play if trying to get different.

Value Plays

Doghouse $250 – Race 1
Chances are that you are struggling to find fill in horses today at Santa Anita. I struggled too. I found value in the maiden races (1-3, 9) mainly because in those races no horse has ever been good enough to win a race to date. I call that: ANYONE’S GAME. Obviously, if you don’t have to, please don’t stoop this low. The horse is 20/1 odds for a reason, but I did find a couple reasons to use this horse. In debut, this horse had a little trouble with 5F. We are now going an extra half of a furlong, which should help this horse that clearly wants to run further. Second, I don’t spend much time in workout tabs but this horse is ripping off HUGE efforts in workouts. Give me a 20/1 horse that is running 38 second 3F workouts and turns those into 48 second 4F works. This is a horse that takes a bit to find its footing, but once it does, starts eating dirt. Lets hope the extra distance can put this 20/1 horse in the top 5 for StableDuel points.
