Ricky’s StableDuel Strategy – Santa Anita 5/30

Hello and welcome to a special Memorial Day card at Santa Anita! There are plenty of stakes races planned for the day, but please don’t fail to remember what this holiday is all about and take time to honor those that served our country and are no longer with us. Santa Anita has a packed 10-race card, topped with THREE Grade 1 races. StableDuel has a nice $10 entry contest to coincide with the action at The Great Race Place! There is NO BETTER TIME than NOW to SIGN UP!

If you’re new to StableDuel, the idea is simple. Select 10 horses to build your stable while staying within the salary cap of $50,000. Horses are assigned prices based on their morning line odds, so you cannot use all favorites in your stable. StableDuel awards points for horses that come 1st – 5th and subtracts horses that finish outside of the top 5. This is why it is crucial to make sure you’re reading our content to narrow in on value horses that we think can get points.

High Price Favorites

#6 Going Global $9,400 – Race 10 I love when race tracks put a nice stakes race at the finale rather than those maiden clunkers, and today we get the G1 Gamely. I think the morning line favorite, Going Global, is the most likely winner of this race. I do question slightly why trainer D’Amato entered a second horse in this race, but I have to ride the hot hand of Going Global. This filly is 2 for 2 at the distance, including the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks. Going Global is coming off a G2 win last time out and will look to remain perfect in 2022, stretching out to the 1-1/8 mile.

Mid Price Plays

#4 Nu Pi Lambda $7,000 – Race 3 I really like this horse in this $69k allowance race on the turf. I thought her last race was good enough to win, but just a bit too fast and allowed closers to catch the blazing speed up front. Nu Pi Lambda looks to sit off the pace of either Dancing Crane or Equilove. She should have a great trip and pass them at the turn, going for home.

Value Plays

#3 Spielberg $250 – Race 4 Spielberg should not win this race, but I LOVE him for StableDuel. We are getting a once Baffert trained, Kentucky Derby trail horse for $250 in a 5 horse field. For terms of StableDuel, coming in 5th place gives you 10 points, minus lengths beat. If this horse can stay close (within 10 lengths) then we will get positive points for virtually nothing. Throw out the last race clunker where he lost to Stilleto Boy by 24 lengths. The race prior, Stilleto Boy and Spielberg were in a photo finish for 3rd in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap at the same distance as today. Spielberg gets an upgrade at rider position to Flavien Prat which should only help.
