Bobby’s NBA GPP TOP Plays (1/18/19)

An OK 7-game slate tonight that will likely be more fun from a fan’s perspective with Boogie getting his first start with the Warriors.  We’ll try to find some spots to expose in my article today.  Make sure as usual to leverage some of my TOP GPP options with a core of chalkier plays. Let’s get into my top GPP plays for this slate.   You can access my CORE GPP Plays by signing up for an NBA package at dfskarma.com!

AS NBA is a game where last-minute real-life changes are made before tipoff, always monitor breaking news up to last second!

The plays below in this daily article are low owned pivots and GPP plays.  This means that these players will be RELATIVELY low owned, and ‘contrarian’ relative to the more highly owned, chalky plays of the night.

BALL IN!

Point Guard

Top GPP Plays:

  1. Jeff Teague: The casual NBA fan would tell you that DRose should be starting over Jeff Teague and this couldn’t be further from the truth.  Teague is a veteran who has been playing out of his mind lately averaging 1.14 FP/min over the course of the last month.  Teague gets a matchup against the Spurs defense which has been giving up tons of fantasy points to point guards this year.  Teague grades out extremely well in this spot and if he was a more ‘exciting’ player he would have double the ownership on this slate.
  2. D’Angelo Russell: If you played Russell the day after his massive 55DK point game you likely got burned.  This is still fresh in the minds of DFS players and it should affect Russell’s ownership tonight.  He’s just as likely to have a massive game as he did two nights ago but it likely won’t correlate with Dinwiddie’s big games.  The Nets and Russell have been playing insanely good basketball and I’m going to ride Russell’s hot streak out.

Shooting Guard

Top GPP Plays:

  1. Klay Thompson: It is likely from a DFS perspective that this game gets faded by a lot of players as the usage will be too thinned out with Boogie on the floor. I think this might help Klay get even better looks and his role shouldn’t change as the main spot up shooter.  At 6.6k as the team’s best shooter in a game with a 242 over/under is a sharp player to be exposed to.  Klay is the Warrior I am most high on.
  2. Evan Fournier:  Fournier is just too cheap for the type of minutes he gets on this Magic rotation.  35+ minutes per game for a volatile usage guard who is priced 5.5k taking ~15 shots per game is an awesome GPP spot.  (sound familiar?) Since the last time we targeted Fournier he’s seen a price bump which is a good sign coming into this matchup.  The Nets should be playing at a high pace tonight and I see no reason to play Joe Harris when you can get to Fournier for $600 more.

Small Forward

Top GPP Plays:

  1. Jonathan Isaac:  Isaac is a solid pivot off of Casspi in GPP’s where he’ll get run against the Nets much smaller second unit and probably matched up against DeMarre Carrol.  Isaac is only 3.7k and while he isn’t playing as well as he was earlier in the season, he is getting more minutes now that are extremely stable.  25-30 minutes should be locked in tonight for Isaac and I find it hard to see a game where he doesn’t hit value against the Nets with an obvious upside for more.
  2. Tobias Harris: Harris has slowed down from the insane tear he was on earlier in the season but is still putting up 1.06 FP/min and is in the highest total of the slate where vegas aren’t projecting a blowout.  Harris has an extremely consistent floor so you don’t need to worry about plugging him into your lineups today (cash/gpp), he comes with a massive ceiling give the total on this game.  At single digit projected ownership I think I’ll end up with a lot of Harris tonight.

Power Forward

Top GPP Plays:

  1. Kevin Looney: Looney is quietly playing out of his mind and had DeMarcus Cousins not returned tonight I believe Looney would’ve been the highest owned player on the slate.  Now he’s going to see SLIGHTLY fewer minutes and nobody is going to play him because of Cousins back. Looney may end up seeing a higher usage boost with the second unit now that he has shown he is capable of running with the stars. Statistically, he has the best matchup of any power forward on the board.  He’s a lock on Draftkings tonight.
  2. Nikola Mirotic:  We hit huge on Mirotic Wednesday where he dropped 46.75 DK points at 4% ownership.  I’m back on him again tonight where he only saw a $400 price bump and this should end up being a similarly fast-paced game with a lot of shooting I can see Mirotic thriving in.  Considering Mirotic barely contributed with any periphrials in his last game he could be in for a major day if he can bump his rebounds up a bit tonight against an under sized Blazers team.

Center

Top GPP Plays:

  1. Montrezl Harrell: I love playing this dude in DFS. His ceiling is so high and nobody likes to play him because he comes off the bench for the Clippers. In what should be the highest scoring game of the slate I believe people are really over-looking how good this spot is.  Harrell is projected for under 15% ownership and will score 50 DK points tonight.  That’s right I said it.  50 burger incoming for Harrell at 7.1k.
  2. Jarrett Allen: I don’t want to chase the Jarrett Allen points but we’re beginning to see what kind of ceiling this kid has.  Allen is just 20 years old and posting massive 20-20 games.  Jeeze.  The Magic are bottom 5 in the NBA in defensive rating against centers this season and even with the price hike Jarrett Allen should dominate in this spot.  The guy is on a role right now and it’d be hard to see Atkinson not giving him 30+ minutes here in a game that the Nets really want to win from a standings perspectvie.
