NBA DFS 1/14/23 – Spike’s Building Blocks

What’s up everyone and welcome to Spike’s Building Blocks! If you’ve never read my content before, welcome. To those that have, welcome back. I truly appreciate everyone that reads and supports during NBA season. This article is designed for me to highlight the top plays of the day. Obviously, things can change rapidly in the NBA with injury news close to lock, so I would be sure to subscribe to our premium package for access to our Final Thoughts cheat sheet, our premium discord channel and my core plays. Our Core Plays product gives you the ability to tail all of our analysts in your contests each night. We do the work for you, and you simply plug and play with our premium Core Plays. With that being said, let’s hop into the plays…

Building Blocks

Joel Embiid

This is a guy who really doesn’t need a whole lot of explanation. Joel gets a matchup against Utah who really doesn’y have a center who can guard him. Walker Kessler has recently been starting at the five spot for them and while he has done decent in that span, he is going to have A LOT of problems tonight. Embiid can stretch the floor and is just a more powerful/bigger center. Currently we have him projected for about 60 FP but we know he has a ceiling of 100. If Utah can keep this close, we could easily see a huge game from him. I don’t expect his ownership to be too crazy because there are an array of spend ups to choose from with all the value we have.

Pascal Siakam

We should be able to have multiple spend ups tonight with all the value from Indiana. Pascal gets a really good matchup against Atlanta who are ranked in the bottom five guarding centers and allowing points to them. Siakam is a guy who can grab boards and assists as well making his upside for a triple-double possible. Capela is still out and Okongwu is just agile enough to keep up with him. Siakam is not your average center and moves around a lot to get different looks. Personally, he is the main offense on this team and will get his share of the rock all night.

Note: Still waiting on some injury news that has yet to drop so stay tuned in the discord channels to get updated on it!

Value Plays

Indiana Pacers

The majority of Indiana is in play tonight as Haliburton is out for the forseeable future. Tyrese generates a lot of usage that will be dispersed to multiple players. Myles Turner is questionable and that will be big if he is out again. Jackson filled in for him the other night and absolutely smashed his price tag. Now Memphis is a tougher matchup than Atlanta but with a minimum priced guy it shouldn’t matter much. McConnnell, Nembhard, Hield, Mathurin and even Duarte are in play for tonight. Nesmith and Brissett are also questionable and that will just add to the variety of players to choose from for this team.

Al Horford

I really think this is ugly that we are talking about Horford but he is in a great spot tonight. The same argument can be made for Robert “Timelord” Williams. Charlotte is once again atrocious in rebounding and to centers. Most of the attention should go towards Tatum and Boston guards which should leave these big men in good matchups in the paint. Rebounds should heavily go in the favor of Boston and they are projected for low ownership right now. These low owned guys can make or break your lineup on slates like this!
