NBA DFS 1/3/23 – Ben’s Building Blocks

What’s up everyone and welcome to Ben’s Building Blocks! If you’ve never read my content before, welcome. To those that have, welcome back. I truly appreciate everyone that reads and supports during NBA season. This article is designed for me to highlight the top plays of the day. Obviously, things can change rapidly in the NBA with injury news close to lock, so I would be sure to subscribe to our premium package for access to our Final Thoughts cheat sheet, our premium discord channel and my core plays. Our Core Plays product gives you the ability to tail all of our analysts in your contests each night. We do the work for you, and you simply plug and play with our premium Core Plays. With that being said, let’s hop into the plays…

Building Blocks

Jordan Clarkson

I was going to write-up Giannis tonight, but I think that’s a fairly obvious option with no Khris Middleton so I’ll focus on the mid-tier. Clarkson is not typically someone I like to play as chalk, and he’s currently projected to be the highest-owned player on Tuesday night. That being said, it’s a fantastic match-up against the Kings and there are very limited options on a three game slate. He leads the team in usage rate, and is almost $2,000 less in salary than Lauri Markannen. Overall, I think you’ll be plugging him into any cash game / single entry-type build and running it back with a Kings player tonight.

Josh Giddey

Another option I like in the mid-tier is Josh Giddey against the Celtics. Everyone knows that this is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s team, but Giddey comes into tonight second in usage rate and per minute production on the Thunder. He’s been super consistent as of late topping 30+ DK points in each of his last seven games, and is one of our highest ranked point per dollar plays on Tuesday night.

Value Plays

Malik Beasley

Beasley is popping as one of the top value plays tonight with Collin Sexton out for the Jazz. We currently have him projected for 25 minutes tonight to go along with his 40% projected ownership. He’s actually been a really productive player during his time in Utah — and his 0.90 fantasy point per minute rate is better than most similarly priced players. He’s going to see more minutes tonight due to Sexton’s maatch-up, and it’s one of the best possible spots against the Kings. If his shot is falling, he can easily beat salary based expectations and I think he’s a strong value in cash game formats. Due to that pOWN% number, however, I don’t consider him a must-play in GPPs.

Domantas Sabonis

We have Sabonis projected for pretty low ownership on a three game slate, despite his top-five ceiling projection. Utah has been one of the worst teams against opposing big men this season, particularly in the paint. Sabonis is the clear leader on the Kings in paint touches per game — with 10 — compared to Chimezie Metu with an average of three per game in second. He just posted a 28-11-8 line against this team in their last game — and I think he will be the focal point of the game plan tonight.
