NBA DFS 3/14/23 – Ben’s Building Blocks

What’s up everyone and welcome to Ben’s Building Blocks! If you’ve never read my content before, welcome. To those that have, welcome back. I truly appreciate everyone that reads and supports during NBA season. This article is designed for me to highlight the top plays of the day. Obviously, things can change rapidly in the NBA with injury news close to lock, so I would be sure to subscribe to our premium package for access to our Final Thoughts cheat sheet, our premium discord channel and my core plays. Our Core Plays product gives you the ability to tail all of our analysts in your contests each night. We do the work for you, and you simply plug and play with our premium Core Plays. With that being said, let’s hop into the plays…

Building Blocks

Evan Mobley + Darius Garland

Everyone will be looking at the Cavs on Tuesday evening, given that Donny Mitchell and Jarrett Allen will miss tonight’s game against the Hornets. Both Evan Mobley and Darius Garland see the two biggest usage rate increases with those two off the floor — Mobley gets a 4% increase while Garland rises by 3%. Both of them see sizable point per minute increases as well, and it’s a fantastic match-up against the Hornets. Cleveland actually has the lowest team total on the board today, but that has nothing to do with the Hornets defense. Charlotte allows the most fantasy points to opposing players while they struggle to contain good guard play as well. They will both be chalky, but they’re tough to avoid in cash game formats tonight. In GPPs, however, you can look for similarly priced pivots.

Kristaps Porzingis

Porzingis and Brad Beal will both see boost tonight with Kyle Kuzma out for the Wizards. This also happens to be a top match-up for them against the Detroit Pistons. Beal leads the team in usage rate with Kuzma off the floor – but Porzingis isn’t far behind at 29% and he’s the better point per minute player as well. Detroit has nobody that can slow him down, the only issue being the potential for a massive blowout like we saw last night in the Pacers/Pistons game. We have Porzingis projecting as very chalky tonight — but I may end up moving him to Anthony Davis closer to lock if he looks like he’s going to be low-owned once again.

Value Plays

Eugene Omoruyi + Detroit Pistons

Detroit is…frustrating to say the least. Yesterday I was on Isaiah Livers and he played only 20 minutes due to a blowout…why these young guys get limited due to blowouts makes no sense to be but here we are! There are even more guys on the injury report today, and it looks like they’ll have around nine guys available to play tonight. Omoruyi had a huge game last night, and is only priced at $3,800 on DraftKings. He is a bit safer that other positions, because of how thin they are in the front-court. When we look at today’s projections, we see that all of Omoruyi, Rodney McGruder and Killian Hayes are projecting for over 25% ownership. These are value plays that we can comfortably plug in for cash games, but I see no reason to lock them in for tournaments. Lamar Stevens is another high-owned value option tonight, as he should start alongside Evan Mobley. It will be easy to build stars and scrubs tonight — so flipping the build and going balanced in GPPs holds some merit.
