NBA DFS – Tristan’s GPP Plays (12/17/21)

Happy Friday everyone! We have a nice big slate ahead of us, TON of news, a bunch of chalk, and a lot of health protocols.  This is a great time to get those low-owned punts into your lineup for tournaments. Let’s dive into some of my favorite GPP plays for tonight!

Point Guard

Similar to all positions, I want players with the highest upside and the highest floor. Yes we are looking for risky players but we don’t want to take players that can give us 30 or 5. We want generally a low risk/high reward player that won’t kill the entire line if he busts. Starting off, I’m looking at Davion Mitchell because the Kings are missing a ton of people tonight. The main guys that will be out tonight are DeAaron Fox and Terence Davis, leaving the guard spot very thin. I fully expect Davion to start in the PG spot here, in a match-up that he should play THROUGH blowout as well. Tyrese Haliburton is currently Q with a back issue as well, and if he sits then it furthers my conviction to play Davion tonight. 3.6k price tag won’t hurt you and he can easily put up 20+DKP with all the injuries/absences.

Shooting Guard

D’angelo Russell will be playing at home tonight against one of his former teams WITHOUT Anthony Edwards. Lakers are currently down around 6 men which includes Avery Bradley, one of their best perimeter defenders. Without Anthony Edwards, Russell gets a usage bump and will see more touches against a strugging Lakers team that barely was able to squeeze by a Dallas team without Luka Doncic. They are still with players like Malik Beasley and Patrick Beverley, whom should step up in Edward’s absence as well. Karl Anthony Towns does see a usage bump as well, but I think the Lakers perimeter defense is worse than their paint defense right now.

Small Forward

Same reasoning as Davion, the Kings are missing many bodies tonight, leaving Buddy Hield as one of the only ones who is able to create his own shot, as well as score with high volume. DeAaron Fox’s usage is definitely going to be spread out through the rest of the Kings’ bodies but I believe Buddy Hield will be one of the ones to truly absorb his usage. He doesn’t want to be there that much and I believe he’s playing a little selfishly with how many shots he chucks up (when he should definitely be passing it at times) so I think this works out perfect for him. Super high boom or bust potential with a blowout brewing but this is a great spot for him to show how much he is worth and why the Kings should value him as such.

Power Forward

Khris Middleton will be fairly popular tonight but I do believe he’s in such a great spot in a game where COVID hasn’t ruined how today will shape out. At least they gave us the news yesterday, so the Bucks will be without Giannis Antetokoumpo against this Pelicans team that is ranked below average on defense and above average in pace. The Bucks will be on the road as well, with Middleton coming back. He sees a huge usage bump with Giannis out, as well as more touches on the ball. He is at a cheap price tag of 6.7k which he should surpass with ease.

Center

This might be a stretch but I watched this happen right in front of my eyes last time… Al Horford is out and Grant Williams is out as well. The Celtics will be down big bodies for this match-up against the Warriors, leaving Enes Freedom and Robert Williams to play the 5. Last time this was the circumstance, I went all in Rob Williams and he costed me a ton.. leaving Enes to drop 30+ DKP. I think you can play either side here, but be wary because Warriors play small. I do believe that though this is the case, the Celtics will be forced to play a big unless they want Jayson Tatum to be on Draymond Green and I find that very unlikely. My lean is toward Enes Freedom as of now, but watch Robert be the one to go nuts tonight.
