Ricky’s StableDuel Strategy – Charles Town 2/2/22

We’re back this week with a StableDuel contest at Charles Town. If you’ve never heard of or played at Charles Town, it’s a small track in Charles Town, West Virginia. This track is known for it’s night racing and 4.5F races. The competition here is usually less than average, but that just gives every horse a chance! I definitely think everyone should check out Charles Town at least during their West Virginia Breeders day, but what better time to get familiar than now!

Back to the contests… Today we have a $30 contest with a $5,000 guarantee. Today, StableDuel is implementing something a little different where they are limiting each person to only submit 3 entries. This eliminates the shark element, but also means we need to really get it right for the stables we do enter. Racing gets underway at 7:00pm EST. In this article, I will lay out some opinions based on price tier.

High Price Favorites

He Is Bonafide $9,000 – Race 5
This is only He Is Bonafide’s second career start, but I think there is a lack of speed signed on this race. In his last race, he was pressured while setting the pace, and it ultimately led to this one falling to fifth. With a race behind him and no pressure, I’m willing to give this horse a chance here. For the complete pace meltdown, he still finished strong enough to get StableDuel points. Today, looks much easier.

Mid Price Plays

Running Roy $5000 – Race 9
Normally I am not a fan of Maiden Claiming races, but I think there is a case for Running Roy here. While the money will flock to Tempesta, and likely rightfully so, Running Roy is the more experienced horse here. Tempesta is a turf horse that completely bombed in only two dirt starts of his career. He does look like he turned it around, but hard to trust on the dirt when Running Roy has never finished worse than 4th.

Value Plays

Jacklighting $750 – Race 8
Due to some scratches in this race, Jacklighting is severely underpriced. Jacklighting will be a little bit further back than I want, but coming off 3 straight wins… this horse can get it done. He’s not my favorite horse in this race but he should be confidently placed in your stable.
