High Price Favorites

Pioneerof New York $9,000 – Race 6
This 4 year old filly out of Pinoneerof the Nile is the class of the field and its not even close. The distance is a little concerning as she has ran this distance a few times recently and has not found pay dirt. I’ll chalk that up to running against better horses, though, and coming second the majority of the time isn’t awful. If there is any sort of pace contention, the door would open for 5 or 7 to pick up the pieces.

Distorted Limits $9,600 – Race 3
Race 3 is a very tricky Maiden Special Weight race going 7 furlongs on the dirt. Maiden races are usually tricky as these are horses that have never won a race before. This race is extra tricky as there are a few first time starters running and we don’t really know how these horses will take to racing. 7F is actually pretty far for firsters too, so I’m gonna lean on Distorted Limits in this race at a hefty price. This horse has ran 2 races so far and has improved. Both of those races were further than this and Distorted Limits should appreciate the cutback. I wouldn’t put this horse in all 3 lineups on the off chance that a firster is ready to fire.

Mid Price Plays

Spinning Joey $3,000 – Race 2
This is a horse I’ll have a little exposure on. Coming from Presque Isle, the horse has never ran on a dirt track so today will be the first official time on dirt. I don’t like the workouts, but I will use in one or two of my free lines on chance that pace setup will favor this horse. Let me be clear when I say 2 is the horse to beat in this race, but a $3,000 mystery horse that can likely grab minor awards with the perfect race setup is intriguing.

Value Plays

Eclectic Soul $750 – Race 8
I truly struggled to find horses under $1,000 that I felt really strongly about on this card. Maiden races are usually races you can find value horses to outrun their odds. This race has two horses that are easily the best horses in the field (5 and 6). After that, its anyone’s game. I can make a case for a few of them, but I landed on the 4 Eclectic Soul. This horse will be making her turf debut in this race but the one positive thing to note is that she is coming from Presque Isle’s synthetic track that plays closer to turf than dirt. She finished 4th in her debut on that track. The next race she ran was on dirt and didnt like that surface. My hope is that she ends up being a true turf style horse and can attempt to upset or acquire minor awards trying the turf for the first time. Another horse in this race to watch is the 2, Shedancesforfate, who has looked really good on the turf as of late.
