Trevis’ PGA Punt Plays – 2019 Genesis Open

Bet on MyBookie

For those of you new to the plethora of content DFSKarma.com puts out on a daily/weekly basis, this is my weekly PGA article that focuses on the cheapos no one else dare write about. It had massive success last year with my getting sub $7K (DK) golfers finishing top 10 at less than 1% ownership on an almost weekly basis. Well, I’m bringing it back this year with the same concept. My cap this year is $7300 in DraftKings pricing (but you can still play them on FanDuel, FantasyDraft, or Yahoo). I focus on recent form and course history heavily to spit out my favorite 5 golfers from within that range.

2019 Genesis Open

This week we travel to the Riviera Country Club. This course plays as a Par 71 that stretches to 7,322 yards. The greens here are Poa Annua.

Charley Hoffman – $7100 DK | $8800 FD

C-Hoff is a PERFECT 5/5 on making the cut over the last half decade. He finished 4th here in 2017 and 12th in 2014. He comes into this event at 15th overall in total strokes gained. He has 3 stats in the top 9 (T2G/BS/APP). None of the other stats are horrendous and I might be locking C-Hoff in everywhere.

James Hahn – $6800 DK | $8400 FD

In the last 5 years,  Jimmy Ha has only missed the cut ONCE (2016). He actually took down this entire event in 2015 and finished a respectable 14th place here last year. He clocks in at 26th overall in total strokes gained. He doesn’t have any stats better than 20th overall (T2G), but he also doesn’t have anything that strikes me as worrisome.

Ryan Moore – $7300 DK | $9400 FD

Moore does have 2 missed cuts in the last 5 appearances, BUT 2 of his 3 made cuts he finished top 10, including a 9th place finish here last year. Ryan is 30th overall in total strokes gained. Similar recent form as Hahn with his best stat being 24th (APP) and not having any that worry me.

KJ Choi – $6200 DK | $7200 FD

At near minimum salary, all KJ has to do is make the cut to hit value. He is the only Punt Play that missed the cut here last year. He made the cut each of the 4 years prior with 3 top 17 finishes, including 5th overall in 2016. KJ is 13th overall in total strokes gained. he has 3 stats in the top 9 (SG/ARG/P). The only stat that blows is his OTT at 109th. Having the best SG/P combo of all my Punt Plays this week (he likes Poa), I’m betting on him to make the cut.

Sangmoon Bae – $7000 DK | $7100 FD

Bae-Bae has only competed here thrice in the last 5 years. He made the cut each of those 3 with an 8th place finish in 2015 and a 12th place finish the year prior. He comes in at 19th overall in total strokes gained. His only putrid stat is 98th in ARG. He is 2nd overall in P, and is slightly above average in pretty much everything else.

Honorable Mention – Bill Haas – $6900 DK | $8900 FD

Billiam is 2/4 in recent history with an 11th place finish here in his last appearance in 2017. Not a HUGE fan of his course history, which is why he is only a mention. However, he is 8th overall in total strokes gained. He has 4 stats in the top 16 and his worst stat is still 42nd overall (APP). I’d bet he makes the cut this go around.
